Program Description:

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Peru (PUC Peru) is ranked as the top university in Peru and among the top 25 best universities in Latin America. Located in the coastal capital city of Lima, this program is an opportunity for students to discover the spectacular region that was once home to the Inca Empire, and is today the complex, multiethnic and multilingual country of Peru. With over eight million inhabitants, Lima is an ethnic melting pot with people from all over the world.

Founded in 1917, the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú is the oldest-established private higher educational institution in Peru. Located on a 43-hectare campus and with a student population of more than 17,000, the University’s teachers, students and graduates are dedicated to the achievement of the highest standards in research and academic work, projecting their work towards the entire national community. See the PUC Peru website for intercambio (exchange) students.

DePaul's relationship with PUC Peru is a reciprocal exchange program. What that means is that DePaul sends a handful of students to PUC Peru while they send a roughly equal number of students to DePaul. Compared to other programs where there might be a larger DePaul contingent of students, PUC Peru exchange students are in classes with local and international students. In return, these students experience a deeper immersion not only in Peruvian culture but also in PUC Peru’s international community. Students are able to take advantage of PUC Peru's student life. Student groups include contemporary dance, Latin American music, sports clubs and language clubs.

PUCP offers a courses in a variety of subject areas. All courses are taught in Spanish. Courses at PUCP will be worth either 3-4 semester credit hours. The course structure for the program is the following.
Program Term Required number of classes Credits per course Total DPU credits
Fall quarter only 4 classes 4.5 - 6 DPU credits  18 - 24 DPU credits
Academic Year 9 - 10 classes (4 - 5 per semester) 4.5 - 6 DPU credits 40.5 - 60 DPU credits

How to find courses at PUC Peru:
Search for courses through each school's website, each of which looks a bit different. In general, follow these steps:

Step 1: Enter the PUC Peru student web page
Step 2: Under the tab "Carreras" or "Especialidades," select the major/program in which you would like to take courses
Step 3: Click the link to "plan de estudios" (name of courses) and/or "sumillas" (short course summary/description) to find available courses

Students participating in this program during the Spring of their senior year should be aware that overseas grades may not be received for their degree conferral until August. While Study Abroad will do everything they can to expedite the process, transcripts are usually not received from overseas early enough for a June graduation conferral.

Students interested in a language major or minor should review this degree progress video and contact the Department of Modern Languages advisor to verify how the courses through this program could potentially satisfy language major or minor requirements.

Visit the Modern Language Option page for more information on how you can substitute a sequence of three courses in the same language for three domain courses.

Students arrange and pay for their own housing. You have the option of staying in PUC campus housing or finding a homestay through the Student Mobility Office.

PUCP Cost Information All students participating in study abroad will be charged both tuition and a program fee.
