Program Description:

Linköping University (LiU) is known for excellence in education and research. One of Sweden's top institutions, LiU is located in the small city of Linköping, 150 km southwest of Stockholm, in a country characterized by long coastlines, large forests and numerous lakes. Linköping has the advantage of being a major city, yet it retains a cozy, small town feel. The city and campus are easy to navigate using local transportation and bicycles. Linköping has a lively, well-preserved city center with shops, cafes and restaurants. With a large international student population, Linköping also offers an exciting and eventful student life. Film, theater, music, and exhibitions can be enjoyed all year long. The University also hosts many traditional events, clubs and associations to join, sports and other activities to take part in.

Because this is an exchange program, DePaul University sends a few students a year to Linköping University, as a roughly equal number arrive to Chicago for the same year. Thus, unlike other programs with a larger DePaul contingent of students and/or faculty, the LiU exchange provides a greater degree of autonomy and is ideal for students who want a more flexible and independent experience. You'll experience a deeper immersion not only in Swedish culture but also in the international LiU community. You'll also have the chance to get to know the LiU students studying at DePaul before and after you return, building even deeper and more extensive networks with peers from Sweden and across Europe.

Students on this program can take courses taught in English in the Faculty of Arts of Sciences. LiU has a strong tradition of focusing research on issues that unite high scientific and societal relevance. Examples of important research areas are entrepreneurship and innovation, migration studies, and gender studies.

LiU operates on semesters and classes are taught in blocks which means that students focus on one course at a time. Most classes are taught in 5 week blocks. Courses offered at LiU vary in credit hours. Please speak to your study abroad advisor in order to determine how much credit you will earn as well as how you will be registered.

Term Required # of host credit hours Credits earned per course Total DPU Credits
Academic Year 60 ECTS credits (30 ECTS credits per semester) 0.75 DPU credit hours = 1 ECTS credit hours 45-48 DPU credit hours

Extracurricular Activities and Cultural Events With a large international student population, Linköping also offers an exciting and eventful student life. Film, theater, music, and exhibitions can be enjoyed all year long. The University also hosts many traditional events, clubs and associations to join, sports and other activities to take part in.

Exchange students should apply for on-campus accommodation when applying to be admitted for studies. Previous students have confirmed that monthly housing costs are likely to be lower if you apply through Linköping University than if you find housing on your own. Please note that students are responsible for coordinating housing arrangements with the assistance of Linköping.

All students participating in study abroad will be charged both tuition and a program fee. Tuition is billed at the student's regular DePaul tuition rate based on the number of credits enrolled. Click for the Academic Year program fee or the Winter-Spring program fee for your program. Read the details carefully to understand exactly what is included. Please also note the withdrawal policy.

DePaul offers several types of scholarships for students studying abroad, and students should visit the scholarship page early in the application process for information on eligibility and deadlines. Students are also encouraged to speak with the DePaul financial aid office for more information about financing their study abroad experience.
